The Ondo State Government has approved a statewide flood mapping initiative to proactively tackle the growing threats of climate change and recurrent flooding.

The exercise aims to identify and address environmental and structural vulnerabilities in flood-prone communities.

Speaking after the State Executive Council meeting held in Akure, Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Tob Loko, emphasized that the project reflects a preventive and data-driven approach to disaster management.

He explained that the government would not only map risk zones but also provide emergency relief and temporary relocation where needed.

“We’re digging deeper into why certain areas are more vulnerable, and we’re preparing for contingencies in case any locations are overlooked,” Loko stated.

He urged residents in high-risk areas to cooperate with officials as the assessment phase begins.
