Myanmar’s National Defence and Security Council (NDSC) has announced the formation of a new union government and a State Security and Peace Commission, in a move that signals a shift in the country’s political landscape ahead of planned general elections.
According to state-owned Myanmar Media Outlets, the newly formed union government will be led by U Nyo Saw as Prime Minister.
The State Security and Peace Commission will be chaired by Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, who previously led the State Administration Council formed after the military seized power in 2021.
The NDSC also revealed that it has annulled the order that transferred sovereign power to the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, effectively bringing an end to the state of emergency that has been in place for more than three years.
