Nurses in Ekiti State, under the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, have joined their colleagues nationwide in a seven-day warning strike.

The strike follows the Federal Government’s failure to address key demands, including:

  • Upward review of shift allowance
  • Uniform allowance adjustment
  • Separate salary structure for nurses
  • Increased call duty allowance
  • Mass employment of nurses
  • Establishment of a nursing department in the Federal Ministry of Health

Speaking with newsmen in Ado Ekiti, the Association’s Chairman, Comrade Adegbuyi, confirmed that nurses in all health institutions under the Association are fully participating in the strike, except at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), where nurses are currently undergoing promotion examinations.

He said the members in the institution would join as soon as they are through with the examination

“We understand the importance of timely promotion for our members,” Comrade Adegbuyi said. “However, nurses will no longer be relegated in the health sector. We appeal to our members to remain resolute and continue in the fighting spirit until further notice from our national body.”

The Chairman emphasized that the Association would not back down until their demands were met, and they were committed to fighting for the rights and welfare of nurses in Ekiti State.
