Prominent Businessman, Otunba Olugbenga Peter Obafemi has officially declared his intention to contest the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
His declaration came during an event held in Ado-Ekiti, which also marked his birthday on August 5th. The gathering drew PDP leaders, ward executives, and party supporters who came out in solidarity with his ambition.

The event, which also coincided with his birthday on Tuesday, was described as a symbolic beginning for what his campaign team referred to as a journey to restore dignity, growth, and visionary leadership to Ekiti State.

In his opening remarks, the Director-General of the Otunba Peter Olugbenga Obafemi Campaign Organization, Hon. Kunle Ogunjobi, said the campaign is anchored on a mandate to redefine governance in Ekiti through people-driven policies and sustainable development.
Declaring his intention, Otunba Obafemi explained that his decision to join the 2026 governorship race stems from a deep passion to reposition Ekiti on the global map through purposeful leadership pledging to build a state where governance is not only effective but transparent, people-oriented, and capable of regaining the trust of the citizens.
“Not every man who walks before a crowd is a leader. But I stand before you today as a leader who walks with the people, who lifts the people, and who will build something greater than politics, a true homecoming of purpose,” he added.
He criticized the performance of successive administrations since the state’s creation 28 years ago, stating that the time has come for real transformation.
Otunba Obafemi emphasized his commitment to youth empowerment, economic revitalization, while assuring party members and residents of his readiness to serve with integrity.
With his official declaration to join the 2026 governorship election, Otunba Peter Olugbenga Obafemi has positioned himself as a reform-minded Aspirant with a clear vision to break from the past and chart a new course for Ekiti State.
