The remains of the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Akinloye Olakulehin, were laid to rest today, 32 days after his passing, following a solemn church service at the Cathedral of Saint Peter, Aremo, Ibadan.
The monarch, who died on July 7, 2025, at the age of 90, reigned for less than a year. His funeral drew dignitaries from across the country, including Governor Seyi Makinde, Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, former Deputy Governor Taofeek Arapaja, Rep. Akin Alabi, and traditional rulers.
Personnel of the Nigerian Army received the king’s body at the church in honor of his military service, while an akéwì (royal praise singer) paid poetic homage. The Archbishop of Ibadan Province, Most Rev. Williams Aladekugbe, described the monarch as a man of peace, unity, and cultural pride.
The late Olubadan was later interred at the cathedral’s cemetery, with final military honors and tributes from President Bola Tinubu, the Oyo State Government, and other prominent Nigerians
