The Councillor for ward C1 in Ibeju-Lekki local government area of Lagos state, Oluwakemi Rufai has died two weeks after being sworn in.

Confirming the development, Ibeju-Lekki LGA chairman, Sesan Olowa said Rufai, the only female member of the council’s legislative arm, died in the early hours of today following a brief illness.

The Lagos state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in a tribute by spokesman, Seye Oladejo, added that Rufai’s death, which came two weeks after taking the oath of office as a lawmaker for the council, is a tragic blow to grassroots democracy in Lagos state.

Oladejo noted that, despite her short time in office, Rufai made a lasting impression through her dedication to community development and loyalty to the party’s principles.

He extended condolences to Rufai’s family, the Ibeju-Lekki community, and her constituents, noting that “her legacy of service, courage, and vision will not be forgotten.”
