President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja on Thursday for a strategic two-nation visit to Japan and Brazil, the Presidency announced.

Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga confirmed Tinubu will transit through Dubai before attending the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama from 20-22 August.

The conference theme “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa” will address economic transformation through private investment and innovation, whilst promoting sustainable African development for peace and stability.

Beyond plenary sessions, Tinubu will conduct bilateral meetings and engage Japanese corporate executives with Nigerian investments. TICAD, established in 1993 and co-hosted by the UN, UNDP, African Union Commission, and World Bank, alternates between Japan and Africa triennially.

Following the Tokyo conference, Tinubu will travel to Brasilia for a two-day state visit from 24-25 August at the invitation of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

The Brazilian leg includes bilateral discussions with President Lula and a business forum with investors. Tinubu’s delegation of key ministers and senior officials will explore cooperation opportunities and sign agreements and memoranda of understanding.
