Kano Pillars defeated Plateau United on penalties to claim the Gusau Ahlan Cup 2025 at Lafia City Stadium.
The final ended goalless after 90 minutes, with both sides creating chances but failing to break the deadlock. Pillars goalkeeper Abuchi Destiny became the hero, saving a decisive spot-kick as the Sai Masu Gida converted all their penalties to secure victory.
Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa started brightly for Pillars but was forced off with a thigh injury, while Plateau United grew into the game through Samuel Kalu’s attacking runs. However, the defensive pairing of Wisdom Ndon and Joshua Dabo for Plateau, and Abdullahi Musa’s solid display for Pillars, kept the score level.
Tournament coordinator Abahuraira Dahiru hailed the 2025 edition as the most successful yet, citing ten days of football, the hospitality of Nasarawa fans and smooth organisation.
Individual awards were handed out at the closing ceremony: Umar Aliyu won the Golden Boot, Destiny was named Best Goalkeeper, while Nasarawa United earned Best Attacking Team after scoring 10 goals.
Dignitaries in attendance included Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule and NFF President Ibrahim Gusau.
