Inter Milan have ended their pursuit of Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman after negotiations with Atalanta collapsed.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that Inter will meet Lookman’s representatives within the next 24 hours to formally communicate the decision. Talks had been on hold for more than two weeks, with Atalanta refusing to lower their valuation despite Inter’s confidence that a breakthrough could be achieved. With no progress, the Nerazzurri have now walked away.

Club insiders stressed that the Lookman discussions were never connected to Roma’s Nicola Zalewski potentially moving to Atalanta, dismissing speculation that the two deals were linked.

Lookman, 26, has been outstanding since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig in 2022. He was a central figure in their attack last season in both Serie A and European competition. His reputation grew further at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he scored three goals and helped Nigeria reach the final.

Inter had identified the Super Eagles forward as a versatile attacking option to boost their frontline, but with Atalanta unwilling to negotiate, the Serie A champions will now turn to alternative targets in the closing weeks of the transfer window.
