President Bola Tinubu appears to have successfully mediated a resolution to the prolonged political crisis between Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The breakthrough came following late-night talks at the Presidential Villa involving Wike, Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly on Thursday.

The pair had been locked in a bitter power struggle over control of Rivers State, which escalated to involve state lawmakers and triggered multiple court cases. The Supreme Court initially ruled in favour of the legislators, but this sparked fresh tensions with impeachment threats against Fubara.

In March, Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending Fubara, his deputy Mrs Ngozi Odu, and all elected assembly members.

He subsequently appointed Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas as administrator.

Sources say the joint visit by Wike and Fubara was to  thank Tinubu for his mediation efforts in ending the crisis that had threatened Rivers State’s stability.
