Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Reconciliation Committee and former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has warned that more defections from the party are likely in the coming months, including possible exits by governors and senators.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Friday, Saraki said the internal crisis facing the PDP, though difficult, comes at a time that allows for recovery ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We haven’t seen the worst of the defections,” he said. “There’s a possibility of one or two more governors and some senators leaving. But the timing gives us a chance to regroup.”
Saraki stressed that the party remains deeply rooted at the grassroots, where support is still strong despite the turmoil at the national level.
He urged the PDP to use the opportunity to rebuild and inject fresh energy into its leadership, particularly at the next convention.
“This is about building a future. If PDP fails, Nigeria risks becoming a one-party state—and that would be a disaster for democracy,” he warned.
Saraki called for unity, commitment, and reform as the party works to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 polls.
