The Nigerian presidency has dismissed reports claiming that Senator George Akume has been replaced as Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
In a statement issued by Presidential Spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency described the reports as false and the work of what it called “agents of mischief.”
The statement stressed that President Bola Tinubu, who is currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments.
It urged Nigerians to disregard what it referred to as “fake news” circulating online.
Akume, a former governor and senator, remains in his role as Secretary to the Government, according to the presidency.
Viral Rumour
On Saturday night, a rumour went viral claiming President Bola Tinubu has appointed Hadiza Bala Usman as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), making her the first woman in Nigeria’s history to occupy the prestigious position.

Usman, who is Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Policy Coordination, was said to have been appointed to replace Akume.
In turn, Akume was to take over as Acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress following the resignation of the Party’s Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.
