Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has debunked reports claiming he has been removed from office by President Bola Tinubu, describing them as “fake, baseless, and misleading.”
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Director of Press and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, Akume said there is no truth to the rumour, adding that the President retains full confidence in his ability to implement the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The information is entirely false, misleading, and lacks any basis in fact, as Mr President has no intention of doing so,” the statement read.
The SGF warned against the circulation of unverified claims, stating that such misinformation undermines public trust and threatens the credibility of institutions.
“We urge the public, media organisations, and digital platforms to verify information before dissemination,” it said.
The clarification follows a similar statement from presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, which reaffirmed Akume’s continued role in the administration.
“Senator Dr. George Akume CON remains the Secretary to the Government of the Federation,” the statement concluded.
