Nigeria’s opposition coalition on Tuesday adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its official political party ahead of the 2027 general elections to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The coalition also announced key interim appointments within the party’s new leadership structure. Former Senate President David Mark has been named the national chairman, while ex-Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola will serve as national secretary. Former Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi, has been appointed as the party’s spokesperson.

Initially, the coalition had attempted to register a new party under the name *All Democratic Alliance (ADA)*, following stalled merger talks with both ADC and the Social Democratic Party (SDP). However, with the registration process reportedly hitting roadblocks at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the coalition returned to negotiations with the ADC.

The formal unveiling of the revitalised party is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

Observers say this development signals a more organised and united front from the opposition as preparations for the 2027 polls intensify.
