Activist and co-convener of the defunct BringBackOurGirls movement, Aisha Yesufu, has called on the newly aligned political coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to ensure inclusivity in its leadership structure.

Reacting to a photo from the coalition’s unveiling meeting, where the high table was occupied predominantly by elderly men, Yesufu expressed concern about the absence of women and youths in the core decision-making process. She stressed that assigning roles such as “women leader” or “youth leader” should not be the only way women and young people are represented.

In a post on her social media page, Yesufu warned against tokenism, insisting that women and youths must be actively involved in shaping the party’s direction. “This table full of older generation men cannot be the only ones allowed to make decisions,” she stated. “Women and Youth must be in the midst of decision-making, not afterthoughts.”

The caution came just after the coalition officially adopted the ADC as its political platform, naming former Senate President David Mark as its interim national chairman.
