The Oore of Otun-Ekiti and Paramount Ruler of Mobaland house, Oba Adekunle Adeagbo, has debunked reports that the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, appointed anyone as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland.
Oba Adeagbo said while the Ooni has the power to confer the title, the monarch has not made such an appointment as he emphasizes that leadership is neither about what he called forceful enthronement nor empty threats.
The clarification follows the altercation that recently ensued between the Alaafin of Oyo and Ooni of Ife over the Ooni’s conferrment of Okanlomo of Yorubaland on businessman, Dotun Sanusi.
To which the Alaafin countered, saying the Ooni lacks the exclusive rights to confer such title and that the Ooni’s instrument of office confines his authority to the Oranmiyan local government, now split into Ife Central, Ife North and Ife South.
