Former councillors who served across Ekiti State between 2022-2024 have accused Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration of discriminatory treatment regarding outstanding entitlements.
The ex-councillors, who served under both Dr Kayode Fayemi and Biodun Oyebanji administrations, claim the current government has selectively paid only those who served under former Governor Ayodele Fayose whilst abandoning APC loyalists.
In a statement signed by Ajewole Temitope and Ojo John Ade Coaster, they described the treatment as “unjust” and a “betrayal” of party values.
“It is shocking that whilst the state government could purchase N45 million cars for newly elected local government officials, it has failed to fulfil obligations to former councillors who served during a critical governance period,” the statement read.
The group accused Governor Oyebanji of showing “continued disregard” for committed APC members, creating fractures within the party at grassroots level.
Their demands include immediate payment of all outstanding entitlements for 2022-2024 councillors as well as an end to discriminatory treatment based on serving administration.
They’re also demanding recognition of grassroots politicians’ contributions to party structure
The statement was released yesterday as tensions mount over unpaid benefits.
