The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has presented certificates of return to newly elected chairmen, vice chairmen, and councillors across the state’s 20 local government areas (LGAs) and 37 local council development areas (LCDAs).

The ceremony, held in Lagos on Wednesday, marked the formal recognition of winners in the July 12 local government elections, where the All Progressives Congress (APC) swept all 57 chairmanship seats.

Speaking at the event, LASIEC Chairperson, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (retd.), commended the electorate, stakeholders, and over 45,000 ad hoc staff for their commitment to the electoral process. She also acknowledged minor delays during accreditation but praised the effective response of security agencies in ensuring a peaceful exercise.

“The certificates of return signify the beginning of a new era of political journey for the elected officials, who are expected to serve the people of Lagos State for the next four years,” she said.

She added that the tenure of the newly elected officials would begin on July 26, 2025, following the conclusion of the current administration’s term.

In his remarks to journalists, Akindikpe Olaleko Olu, the chairman-elect of Ajeromi Local Government, pledged to build on the foundation laid by the outgoing chairman. He promised continuity, transparency, and a focus on food security through the launch of “Ounje Ajegunle,” a subsidised food distribution scheme set to operate weekly across all wards.

Olaleko also vowed to sustain the council’s annual security summit and ensure all roads in the area are fully tarred.

Also speaking, Prince Lanre Sanusi, chairman-elect of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government, identified poor road infrastructure—particularly in FESTAC Town—as a top priority for his incoming administration. He blamed the Federal Housing Authority for the deterioration of roads in the estate but promised proactive intervention by the local government.

“We are excited with the outcome of this election. We have assured our people that road infrastructure, especially in FESTAC, will be given top attention,” Sanusi said.
