Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has congratulated Muslims in the state, across Nigeria, and around the world on the commencement of Hijrah 1447 AH, the Islamic New Year.

In a statement released on Friday, Makinde encouraged the Muslim Ummah to remain steadfast in good deeds, assuring them of divine reward. He described Hijrah – the migration of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Makkah to Madinah as a time for reflection, prayer, and intercession for the peace and progress of the state and country.

The governor urged Muslims to uphold values of religious tolerance, harmony, and good neighbourliness, which he said have long characterised Oyo State’s peaceful coexistence.

He thanked the Muslim community for their support since his administration began in 2019 and called for continued cooperation as his government works to complete key projects.

“With 23 months left, this period is crucial for us to finish strong and deliver enduring legacies,” Makinde said.

He also noted the launch of the Legacy Compact initiative to monitor performance across sectors and ensure completion of major projects before his term ends.
