Paris Saint-Germain cruised to a commanding 4-0 victory over Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami on Sunday, securing their place in the Club World Cup quarter-finals.

Miami, featuring Messi and former Barcelona teammates Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba, were dismantled by Luis Enrique’s European champions in Atlanta.

Joao Neves netted twice for PSG, who also benefited from a Tomas Aviles own goal and a strike from Achraf Hakimi. Neves opened the scoring early, and PSG added three more goals in a 10-minute spell late in the first half, putting the game out of reach.

Despite Messi being the main draw for the 66,000-strong crowd, his intermittent interventions were not enough to stop the Parisian attack.

PSG doubled their lead when Busquets lost possession, allowing Neves to tap in his second. Aviles then deflected a cross into his own net, and Hakimi fired home the fourth before half-time.

While Messi attempted to create chances in the second half, Inter Miami could not find a way back into the game. PSG will now face either Bayern Munich or Flamengo in the quarter-finals on Saturday in Atlanta.

Inter Miami return to MLS duty and visit Canadian side Montreal on Sunday, 6 July (00:30 BST).
