As Nigeria joins the global community to mark International Youth Day, stakeholders have called on young Nigerians to harness their potential and take greater responsibility in shaping the country’s future.
The annual observance, held every August 12, celebrates youth creativity and resilience while spotlighting the challenges they face. With over 60% of the Nigerian population under 30, the day carries significant national relevance.
Speaking exclusively with VEONEWS, the Director of Media and Publicity for the PDP in Ondo State, Leye Ìgbàgbọ, expressed concern over the conduct of some youths, warning that indiscipline could hinder national progress. He urged young people to focus on building strong values, skills, and character that will empower them to thrive and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
Also, a Public affairs analyst, Kofoworola Akinjo, highlighted the low youth participation in governance. He encouraged young Nigerians to take ownership of their future by using their votes wisely to remove corrupt leaders and elect those committed to transparency and development.
This year’s International Youth Day theme, “Local Youth Actions for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Beyond,” calls for the inclusion of youths in driving sustainable change, urging all sectors to see young people as active partners in progress.
