Poland’s Iga Swiatek stormed to her first Wimbledon title on Saturday, delivering a ruthless 6-0, 6-0 win over Amanda Anisimova in just 57 minutes to claim her sixth Grand Slam crown.
The 24-year-old eighth seed was dominant from the outset on Centre Court, barely giving her American opponent room to breathe as she recorded one of the most one-sided women’s finals in recent memory.
Swiatek, who had never previously progressed beyond the quarter-finals at the All England Club, has now won all six major finals she has contested. Her victory makes her the eighth consecutive first-time women’s Wimbledon champion since Serena Williams last lifted the trophy in 2016.
Anisimova, seeded 13th, came into the final with momentum after upsetting world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-finals, but struggled under pressure and committed 14 unforced errors in the opening set alone.
Swiatek lost just one set throughout the tournament and showed her growing comfort on grass after reaching the final in Bad Homburg earlier this month.
