President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Tokyo, Japan, to participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development, TICAD 9.
The conference will run from August 20 to 22 at the Pacifico Yokohama and will bring together African leaders, development partners, and key stakeholders.
The President’s aircraft touched down at Haneda International Airport at 12:50 a.m. local time, where he was received by Ambassador Hideo Matsubara, Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, and officials from the Nigerian Embassy.
TICAD, which is held every three years, was initiated by the Japanese government and is co-hosted by the United Nations, UNDP, the African Union Commission, and the World Bank. The last edition was hosted in Tunisia in 2022.
This year’s theme, “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” will spotlight Africa’s economic transformation, the role of private investment and innovation, and the promotion of a resilient and sustainable society for peace and human security.
During the conference, President Tinubu is expected to hold bilateral meetings and engage with chief executives of major Japanese companies already investing in Nigeria.
